Internet - searching the web

Students use the web a lot in their assignments, therefore it is important they know how to use the web efficiently. Below is a list of resources that can be used to help students make the most of the web.

LOGO2.0 part I and IIGoogle Guide was developed by Nancy Blachman. It provides guidance for Novices, Experts and Teens.

The Internet Detective - a tutorial that helps students develop Internet research skills for their university and college work. There is now a Welsh version available, while created for Moodle, it should also be suitable for use in other VLE software.

Liberation is a tutorial that teaches students how to search the web in particular subject areas and how to evaluate the sites they find. Allows students to carry out "real" searches on the web, while in the tutorial.

Tonic: the online netskills interactive course.

UC Berkley class handouts: Teaching Library Internet Wokshops. The handouts for classes are provided for those unable to attend the workshops and for other teachers who may wish to consult and/or use them in their classes. Reproduction for non-profit instructional purposes is allowed providing the copyright information and URLs are retained on all pages.

Phil Bradley has created a list of spoof scientific and commercial websites that could be used in teaching.
